I received this in a recent Glossybox and didn't think much of it.. in fact I was a touch envious of those that received the Jumbo Jet version as it looked to give more impact but this was absolutely perfect for me. Excuse the lack of lash shots but I can never remember to take the before pictures so sharing the after's always seems pointless as you can't really see what it's done. I am blessed with stubby, light coloured lashes and struggle to get anything special out of them even with high end products but this mascara is designed specifically for lashes such as mine. I thought it was a bottom lash mascara but it would seem it's actually just for short lashes. It gets as close as it can to the lash line without smudging all over the place. That of course does make it ideal for bottom lashes but anyone would find it a great addition to their makeup bag. You could start off with this at the root and layer your favourite mascara as normal. I love when a product I'm not expecting much from me by surprise and this is one such product!
I know you've been asking after this review since I bought the mascara but I wanted to give it a good go before telling you what I thought. I spoke a little too quickly about the Benefit "They're Real" so I've used this for a few days and feel I'm in a better position to really review it.
First up, Application. The wand is curved which I would generally associate with a curling mascara but that's not really what this is about. It creates lift but somehow sculpts the lashes outwards in a "cat eye" like effect. The wand is quite fine so it allows you to get right in to the root as well as catch the corner lashes.
The formula is really wet which I usually don't like but it's not so bad in this product. Another big plus for me is it's easy to remove at the end of the day and yet it still stays put all day.
I haven't tried the original Colossal myself so I can't compare the two but I can tell you I am really warming up to Maybelline as potentially the best drugstore mascara brand. This and "One by One" are now my top 2 for sure.
I love a bit of Friday night, after-work shopping, don't you? The only thing is I see things I don't buy and then the next day is Saturday so I inevitably return to purchase those items I've decided I must have after all.. d'oh! The whole point of late night shopping is to avoid the weekend crowds!!! Anywho. I thought I would share a few offers I noticed. Number one on my list was Boots are giving away a free Glam Eyes liquid eyeliner with any purchase over £5. Now they did me good 'cause I went in for the mint green nailpolish you see here which was £4.49 and there was no way I could find something for 50p to top uo my purchase so I ended up replacing my Stay Matte powder which died recently. Rimmel's Exaggerate liquid liner is my all time fave so I'm really looking forward to trying out the Glam Eyes. Second deal of the evening was Maybelline's new Colossal Cat Eyes mascara was down to £5.99 from £7.99 in Superdrug for it's launch PLUS you get 300 beauty card points with the purchase!! bargain! I know I bought a new mascara last week but with that kind of logic this one was practically free (expect pics and review very soon). Unfortunately as I am a total numpty I forgot to give them my beauty card when I got to the till so I'm more than a little peeved but am hoping they will add my points from my receipt.. I haven't opened it just in case.. I figured I was probably going back today anyway.
Not all of you will be interested in this next one but as I'm getting more and more fat.. okay, pregnant, I am developing the worst cellulite of my life and it's all the way down to my knee!! I know us girls are plagued with the orange peel, dimpled thighs but it's getting beyond a joke. I seem to remember getting a little obsessive about cellulite the first time round so I'm hoping it's just a symptom that will go away but none the less I couldn't resist half price Perfect Slim from Loreal. They do a whole range of "sculpting" type gels and creams and they are all half price in Superdrug right now so if you love them or have ever wanted to try them now is the time to go pick one up! I did also buy a new MUA eyeliner I've never tried before as well as a Models Own nail art doodah that I've wanted forever but they weren't as exciting as my final buy.. Coconut Oil. I forget the exact price but it was under £2 for sure. It can be used on the skin as a moisturiser, it can be used as a leave in conditioner on your hair and it can be used as an intensive mask for those with dry or damaged tresses like mine. Result! I slathered (lying - Lee slathered) it all over myself last night and this morning I am feeling pretty darn moisturised. It's a bizarre formula that is hard in the tub and melts on contact with your skin to a kind of oil. I will post about it in more detail but I urge you all to go out and get a tub.. I will be trying it out on my hair this morning too.. can't wait!
I also feel it necessary to mention this awesome jumper I got from Primark for the fabulous price of £10
I am totally in love and very excited that these plain, chunky knits are back in fashion. They are so my style and what I like is so rarely "in" so I will be embracing this trend to replenish my wardrobe for years to come. One of the items I'm going back for today is a Zara cardigan that I just can't stop thinking about. I dearly wish brands would give up putting weird elbow patches on stuff but the ones in Zara are the least vile so I think I must have it.
Do any of you indulge in a weekly spree? what awesome finds did you pick up this week?
Now I consider myself to be over the "Benefit Craze" and haven't felt the urge to go out and buy any of their new products in quite some time but when I first heard of this mascara I'll admit.. I was excited. I'm not a huge mascara freak (though you'd think so from the size of my collection) I don't have fantastic eyelashes and no matter how high end the product I don't seem to have ever achieved amazing results. It's the one beauty item that I don't lust after because I just don't really believe it will do anything for me. I have a large collection because I'm always open to trying new things but I am rarely willing to part with more than drugstore prices. Benefit's "They're Real" was offering something totally new. Volume, Length, Curl and Long-lasting results all in one tube. At £18.50 it's definitely on the pricey side for me but with all the hype I just knew I was going to have to try it.
Let me tell you a little bit about the brush.. it's a new-style rubber wand as opposed to the traditional brush. It's different to any other wand I've tried. Many have likened it to the phenomen'eyes from Givenchy and I can see why. It has definitely taken inspiration from that design with the end of the wand utilized to get every little lash covered and the "spiked" style bristles to separate and prevent clumps when applying more than one coat. It was tricky to get used to but I think over time it will work better for me with practice.
Now as I said, my lashes are nothing special to begin with. Here's my before and after shots...
After these pictures, while I was filming my review I lifted my lashes by pushing them with my fingers and the difference was huge. My intention the next time I apply this is to curl my lashes AFTER. I think that could really work for me. I will of course take photos and share if it works well. The formula is good. It does lift, lengthen and create volume and as I write this post 9 hours after applying my makeup I can tell you I have no flaking and the lift is still going strong so I would say that it is indeed a long-lasting mascara.
Bottom line, I am impressed with this product, It does what it claims but it's not QUITE as wow as I'd hoped. Perhaps that's my expectations that were too high and I should really have known better but I truly believed this was going to be the mascara to end all other mascara's for me.. I thought I'd finally found "the one" that was going to make me fall in love with Benefit all over again... but.. I'm not sure I have.
Granted I have used this so you never know, with practice I might change my mind but right now I don't think I'd part with the money again. It's twice what I'd usually spend on mascara and I have to ask myself.. is it really TWICE as good?
Mascara is a really personal thing. You're ultimately only going to get the best results with the best natural lashes so there will be some of you that will find everything this product that I wanted to. Don't let my uncertain opinion put you off trying what might be the best mascara you've ever owned but for me.. it's just not quite hitting the spot.
Miners latest offering comes in mascara form and before I even start let me just say... I like it!
You guys may know that I receive new miners launch products to review from time to time. I am always wary as I would hate to give something a bad review if it's been sent to me for free but luckily so far I've loved everything they've sent and even the items that perhaps aren't "me" I can at least see the positives for others. FYI if I didn't like a free product I would just choose not to review it, I am always honest albeit very opinionated. Anyway.. let's get on with it.
So, what's the hype?
Get full-bodieGet full-bodied lashes from root to tip with Voluptulash Mascara from Miners Cosmetics.
The unique hourglass shaped brush is specially designed to sculpt and volumise, leaving you with voluptuous and luscious lashes.
Voluptulash is available in two vivacious shades
Ok so, what do I think?
Well... I don't think it's a volumising formula... I know this might sound odd for a good review but stay with me. It didn't offer me an fullness, thickness, anything-ness resembling volume, that's just ME. My lashes are tricky and I struggle to get a real BAM look no matter what I use..
I did however think it was a great lengthening mascara fo me. It seemed to left and lengthen, I don't know if it was curling or what but it was doing something. I will try and get some good shots to put up for you but as I said my lashes are poor so what I think is awesome you guys probably wont. I may get a stand in lash model for the job. So... they were definitely sculpted and they were without a doubt luscious.... I also really liked the brown shade, it was my first brown mascara and it's safe to say it wont be my last.... but it didn't volumise.
This stuff is a steal at £3.99 if that's what you're looking for. I would compare is to Urban Decays Skyscraper... only better.
I compared the wand to my other comb mascaras
Bourjois 1001 lashes & Urban Decay Skyscraper
I actually find that the miners applicator is easier to work with and I haven't had trouble with the mascara smudging on to my lid (which I do with the Urban Decay wand)
I think the formula is just as good as the higher end equivalent and so I just can't see the justification in paying the higher price.
Have any of you guys tried this?
If you haven't but you'd like to you can buy miners @
I was lucky enough to receive some fabulous GOSH products in the post today from the generous people at Superdug... here's a little looksie and what I got...
once I've had change to really play around with the stuff I'll get a review out but as of right now I'm just an excited little bunny with new toys... the last couple of days have been a complete beauty overload... I think that's me for a week or two... I don't think I really NEED anything else now... want is a different matter of course ;) but I think after this huge bundle of products I've acquired in the last 24 hours perhaps I'll focus on skincare for a while... base/primer etc counts as skincare right??... what about eyeshadow? lipgloss?....
Okay.. I realised I'd missed a few bits off my video so heres a bog pisture of everything she sent me..
I wish I had a picture of everything wrapped up as it was... sooo cute! and so thoughtful of her.
I have some pictures of the Hard Candy stuff she sent coming up next...
I have some swatches of the Wet and Wild palette against the naked palette by Urban Decay too.. some colours are a great match... it would be a great dupe if you couldn't get the UD one!
