Salon Style Hair...At Home?

Now I'll admit when I first saw these promo shots of Louise Redknapp for the new Schwarzkopf LIVE Salon Style I wasn't sure. I've known and loved her as a boho blonde for so many years this was a radical change but we all like to switch up our hair as seasons pass and Winter has obviously tempted her back to her darker roots. I do think she needs to bring back her bronzed glow but her new shade really makes her eyes pop where blonde never did and I tend to think warm brunette tones are more youthful...
but then I would say that wouldn't I?

Louise has been experimenting with darker shades recently and I think the chocolate brown she's settled on has brought back the natural shine to her bleached hair. I know that's what always steers me back to brunette! To achieve her new do she used the new LIVE Salon Style from Schwarzkopf (in case I hadn't already made that clear). It's the first professional quality hair colour to be developed for home use and promises to cover greys and leave you with healthy, shiny hair.
Whenever I've had an all over colour at the salon it does always look better than my own efforts at home.. but why? I always thought it must be application but apparently not. Schwarzkopf claim to have bottled it so I can't wait to give it a go. Those of you that have tried other products from the LIVE range in the past will know the results are intense and less prone to fade so I'm excited to see how they've improved upon an already winning formula.

For more info check out the video below...

You know I'm a huge advocate of home hair colouring, you name it, I've tried it so when something new is launched my poor hair knows it's set to play guinea pig. Fortunately LIVE have developed an app for you to test out one (or all) of their 20 new shades before taking the plunge. I tried it out..
What do you think?

My New Hair

I love being brunette, it's healthier for my hair and it definitely suits me more than blonde... but sometimes it's a bit boring, y'know? That and the darkest dark shades I usually use tend to make me look even paler than I am (which is really pale). So I decided to lighten up as a pre-baby treat and this is the result.
What do you think?
A hairdresser friend of mine (she's actually StyleSoCoy's sister) came over and did it for me in the comfort of my own home which is always nicer when we're talking time consuming foils. I told her I wanted lighter blonde pieces in the underneath and overall highlights and I think it came out really nicely. When my hair moves you can see the lightest sections and dependant of how I style my hair it will reveal different highlight effects, it makes me boring brunette shade much more versatile. The damaged ends of my hair always fade quickest so it's evened out my colour too. I loved the glossy dark on top but the lower layers never matched so it was about time something was done and I really like how it's turned out.
It's not quite the Lauren Conrad brunette I was initially campaigning for but over time I think I'll have more blonde in the underneath to achieve that contrast look.

Before and After
You can't ignore the difference in skin tone and I swear this is the exact same makeup I'm wearing in both photos. Ok so the lighting's different but neither were taken with flash.. the warmer shade just really brings out the colour in me. It's perfect for Autumn/Winter and most importantly I like it!

My Hair..

My hair has finally grown to what I'd describe as "mid-length" and the last thing I want to do it cut it but I really want a change. I love the ombre look but I don't think it looks great on shorter locks and I have lots of layers so I'm not sure it would work. I want to lighten up while still keeping a rich brunette tone throughout, I've been too blonde in the past and it washes me out. I like my hair dark but it can make me look so pale.. I just want something I little different. I love this highlighted look LC's rocking (below) and am hoping to achieve something similar with the help of my hairdresser friend who's visiting tomorrow. The day before my hospital visit may not be the optimum time for making changes like this... after all the first baby pictures will be around forever so I'm keeping my fingers crossed I don't hate it. In the meantime if any of you have any fabulous colour suggestions/pictures for me I would LOVE to see them... leave me a comment!

I just can't DYE!

For those of you that follow my Baby Blog you will have already seen this picture and have an idea of what this post will be about. Since I fell pregnant my hair has behaved more than a little strangely. It all fell out and broke off when I bleached it (yes I was damaging my hair but it is usually very resilliant) It is getting greasy so much faster and my virgin hair at my roots dont appear to be retaining any colour when I use a home hair dye.
This has left me with this unattractive regrowth that I really not loving. You can't really tell unless you're in the right light and you're really looking at my roots but I know it's there and I need to do something. I'm not sure there's much point in colouring again because I don't think much will happen so my plan is this..
You know I have been a firm fan of ColourB4 in the past and I thought that this was as good a time as any to give it another whirl. I'm hoping it will lighten up enough to then dye a closer colour to my roots so my regrowth wont be as noticeable and my hair colour will require less maintenance for the remainder of my pregnancy and while I'm busy with the new baby.
I am popping out now to pick up a bottle so wish me luck and I will of course report my results.
If you've had any similar experiences with your hair I would love to hear from you, leave me a comment!

to Red or not to Red?

Lets set aside the damage I did to my hair with all the bleach and how I should leave it alone and just think about this... red or not red? haha
My hair is fading and a rate of knots so why not go for a bit of a crazier colour while it's likely not to last?
I have always coveted Ashlee Simpsons red hair and think she's one of the few people that suits it over any other colour I've seen even though it's far from her natural shade. I have dabbled with red in the past (see video below) but it faded and I decided to stay brunette but I liked how it looked... what do you think? I have a colour on stand by I'm just waiting... deciding... googling... hmmm...

Blonde v Brunette

It's been my ultimate beauty question.
Blonde/Brunette, Brunette/Blonde, To dye or not to dye... or bleach as the case may be
I love to change my look but the time has come for me to settle down. After my last hair mishap I got a little scared and I think the decision needs to be made once and for all. Am I a blonde or am I a brunette? Naturally I'm somewhere between a dark blonde and a medium brown so that doesn't really help me but I was playing around on iVillage and their virtual makeover helped me create these...

In my opinion it's clear that blonde is just not me... maybe once but not anymore plus it's just too high maintenance and hard on my hair. I intend to stay Chocolate brown throughout my pregnancy and if I can last 9 months.... maybe I can last forever???

Do any of you have this relationship with your hair?
