A Hair Raising Plan

I look at this picture of Elizabeth Olsen and think, 'she's pale like me! Maybe I could pull off that blonde.. but the picture below tells a different story. I look paper white! I'm sure I'm not quite so ghostly in real life but you may have noticed my new hair colour. You can see the shade I was here. I used ColourB4 to take out as much of the dark colour as possible. It left me with warm brown tones. I have an appointment at the salon tomorrow and my intention is to have about an inch chopped off the bottom, all of my layers trimmed and... as many highlights as they can cram on my head!

I've been brunette for more than a year now which someone pointed out to me is probably the first time in a decade and I'm bored! I've been contemplating a change for a while and I thought, why not in time for our honeymoon in Vegas? I love experimenting with new makeup when I change my hair colour but it takes a while to find the right combos so I wanted a little while to get used to it before we go away. They also say that there's only 2 weeks between a bad haircut and a good one.. well we fly 2 weeks on Sunday so fingers crossed I'm loving my new honey coloured mane by then!

I wanted to share my plan ahead of the appointment to prepare you for the 'reveal' post and inevitable YouTube video that will follow. Annoyingly I did just buy a new set of chocolate brown hair extensions which I mentioned in another post. I never showed you them because they weren't a perfect match and now they obviously won't be. I'm sure I will be brunette again at some point so I will keep them until then. If you want to see them I uploaded a video wearing them (link)

Until tomorrow...

Miss BB

  1. I'm terrible with my hair have dyed it for years and always get bored and went through a stage of having full head highlights after getting bored of the dryness and the upkeep I have been brunette for a while and have just recently had highlights put through (it was just a tint so its a lighter brown shade rather than blonde) just the underneath,I therefore don't get the growth visible (so less trips to the salon!) I love blonde hair but have come to terms with that means dry hair and lots of upkeep!

Can't wait to see the new do! :)

    1. I haven't been blonde in over a year and I've never consistently kept it up at the salon before but this year is the year I invest in my hair and give it the treatment it deserves so I will keep up my hairdressers appts and see how bad the upkeep really is

  2. what about a nice dark red or even a nice purple?Purple hair is so trendy nowadays,im gonna dye my hair a nice purple in a few weeks,as my hair is light brown now.The girl in the picture has light eyes..also she isnt that pale..people with light eyes looks better with lighter hair i think. You looked good as blonde and also as dark brunette. xx

    1. Been there, done that, neither are flattering on me. If I get the right blonde it will look really nice and as I'm entrusting a professional I'm feeling good about the results! light eyes and light hair can look good yes but I think dark hair and light eyes are just as striking and Jessica Simpson looks her best blonde and she has brown eyes! I think I'll need to bust out the bronzing powder!

  3. Its sad how excited I about this haha, what you need to do to achieve a style like Elizabeth's is ask for the highlights to be more concentrated on the bottom and more ombre-like on the top, making it far less-maintenance, then all you need to top it up for a while after is the Superdrug miracle toner (I know the exact one you talked about, I have used it in the honey blonde as well and it would be PERFECT for achieving this sort of colour on bleached hair). I really hope this goes well for you, and keep in mind the ombre technique!

    1. oh Thomas you truly are my number one supporter lol.
I think I'll likely have a full head of highlights and then over the next 6 months have them more and more sparingly to get that growing out low maintenance colour. My hair is a little short for an ombre right now I feel.
I spoke to my hairdresser and she mentioned a honey blonde toner would you believe... I'm sooo excited to get it done! Will blog the 'after' pictures tomorrow night if I can xxx

    1. I have also dabbled with pink hair.. I am with you on the power of change but I am resigned to only let the pro's near it now lol.
I want a mix of chunky and fine highlights in honey and bright blonde.. can't wait to see what it turns out like!

  5. I think you're doing the right thing with highlights! And you're hair will lighten up even more while your away! If it was me I would feel much more summery and holiday-like (if that makes sense) with blonde hair!

  6. I'm thinking of going to a salon to dye my hair for the first time.. I want Snooki's black/red hair.. My hair is super long like hers and I think it would be a really nice change for when the spring/summer actually come.. I'm just nervous they'll ruin my hair =( Do you go to the same stylist for your hair every time? How did you chose the right salon? I'd really love the advice on picking a salon/stylist I'm scared to death Lol

  7. QueenxPeaches - isnt Snooki´s hair done with extentions the red I mean?, I think that may be a safe bet for that type of red as with pink they would need to bleach your hair first then colour it red and it will wash out quit fast.

Miss Budget - Highlights all they way best thing as they look so much more natural than a full head of bleach blonde.... im sure it will look lovely.

  8. I personally think you look stunning with the paler hair and I'm loving the blonde through it (from previous colouring?). Can't wait to see how it turns out after your trip to the salon!!
