Blonde/Brunette, Brunette/Blonde, To dye or not to dye... or bleach as the case may be
I love to change my look but the time has come for me to settle down. After my last hair mishap I got a little scared and I think the decision needs to be made once and for all. Am I a blonde or am I a brunette? Naturally I'm somewhere between a dark blonde and a medium brown so that doesn't really help me but I was playing around on iVillage and their virtual makeover helped me create these...
In my opinion it's clear that blonde is just not me... maybe once but not anymore plus it's just too high maintenance and hard on my hair. I intend to stay Chocolate brown throughout my pregnancy and if I can last 9 months.... maybe I can last forever???
Do any of you have this relationship with your hair?
I know I'm soooo late to the party here but I am absolutely OBSESSED with Revlon Colorstay! I can't tell you how pleased I am to have discovered this amazing foundation that 100% knocks my NARS Sheer Glow out of the water and it's a fraction of the cost. The coverage is absolutely unparalleled for me, it's buildable to double as concealer, it really DOES last all day AND it comes in combination/oily which prevents the breakouts that usually come with a heavy, long lasting coverage. It's just unbeatable... in fact I wont be looking any further. I no longer need to try the latest ANYTHING! I've found my ultimate, holy grail foundation end of story.
I should probably also mention for all you oily prone girls like me that although it doesn't keep me matte ALL day it leaves me with a glow at worst. Who else LOVES this like I do?
First of all, my apologies for being absent here lately... I planned to schedule some blogs for while I was away but got a touch sidetracked when I discovered I was pregnant shortly before *SHOCK*
For anyone who doesn't know this is happy news as we have been trying for a baby for while but I'm not going to bang on about that here... I have a whole seperate blog for that and if you're interested in updates you can hit the "pregnancy" tab above and see what's happening there.
So... I recently did the "how much does your face cost" tag on youtube, I don't know if it's gone around there yet but I haven't seen it, though I'd be very surprised if it hadn't already done the rounds. You can expect my blog version very soon. I also created* a new tag which I am hoping to extend to the blogging community.
*I'm not sure it's never been done before but I don't THINK it has!
"Songs of my Life" ... you basically pick the most poignant songs of your life, tell us why they mean something to you, do they remind you of something or someone? Was there an event you heard them at? Whatever!
I went all blah blah on mine of course and spoke about teenage boyfriends and dance routines as well as my wedding song and the song that embodied my leaving my husband for someone else.. (judge all you want... my life!) You don't have to be as open as I was but I loved the idea so for those of you not youtube inclined here's your opportunity to do this new* tag!
here's my video version for you to check out, let me know what you think and leave me your link if you blog your own! If you DO do a youtube version like me then go ahead and leave it as a video reponse so I see it :)
If I've scheduled this correctly right now I should be whizzing my way to Disneyland Paris on the Eurostar.
I will be out of blogging and vlogging action for about a week although I may have pre-written a few crafty little blog posts for your perusal.
This is just a quick one to tell you about my YouTube channel I made a while back dedicated to all things none beauty related and none TTC (trying to conceive) so all of Ella's videos go on there, as do my "home video" type ones and anything and everything I don't feel belongs on my main channel. I will of course be taking my camera along on our trip and will no doubt be bringing back more footage and photos than memories. I have a terrible habit of seeing my holidays through the lens of my camera so I don't really experience them until I get home, haha! So if you guys are interested in seeing anything from the trip or anything else like it then go subscribe to that channel now in readiness. The videos aren't as frequent but they own't be anywhere else.
Aaah, now while I get back to my well deserved break I hope you all have a wonderful week wherever you are and whatever you're doing.
1. I was looking for something "do-it-all" for my trip to disneyland
2. It was £9 with £3 off which made it SIX POUNDS!
It was practically free so I HAD to buy it and I am sooo pleased that I did. It's fabulous! I have always lingered around the FAMOUS section, their nailpolish and single eyeshadows always appeal, the colours draw me in but the prices are hit and miss. You can get stuff like this that's an absolute steal but singles of things are overpriced in comparison.
Anywho, this post is not about the brand it's about this palette and how you all need to go out and buy it while they're still on offer. While I was in superdrug I swatched the new Sleek palette.. I still don't have any and thought it could be a good one to pick up but this caught my eye and I'm glad it did! You have more colour choice, more product and it's cheaper right now!!!
So here's a little overview in pictures/swatches
Note, the upper of the two eyeshadow swatch pictures is not the greatest true to life photo ever, it kind of makes the colours all look a bit blah but in reality they are incredible... really! They have to be seen to be believed for this price.
I have filmed a travel makeup bag video which a has a dedicated review to this in the middle.
I will post it here as soon as it's live.
If you've already tried it let me know what you think, and if you haven't you absolutely have to!
Funny, I thought that I hit 4000 subscribers on my YouTube channel just as I hit 400 followers on my blog... I appreciate symmetry but it's obvious people don't like to read anymore LOL.
Anywho, on with the giveaway. I told you when I hit 4000 I would run this so I am. I took in to consideration all of your suggestions and have decided on the tried and trusty choose a lipstick and eyeshadow of your choice.
Here's the deal
Leave me a comment with 2 items, they could be both lipstick, both eyeshadow or a lipstick and an eyeshadow in the shade of your choice. Make sure you leave me your email address or youtube sign on if you are not logged in when you leave a comment but to enter on this blog you must be a follower so you may as well sign in to enter... it's just easier to track!
I will be drawing the winners as soon as I hit 5000 subscribers on YouTube.
There will be 2 winners, one winner picked from my video comments and one picked from my blog comments so to be in with two chances to win go over and enter there too.
Good luck to you all and if you have any questions ask! preferably send me a message on twitter/formspring/youtube rather than the comments to this post as it will intefere with picking a winner.
I am getting verrrry close to 4000 youtube subscribers and 400 blog followers.
I have decided to run a big contest when I hit 4000 that will run until I hit 5000. It's going to be a pick your own MAC product contest. It could be say 2 lipsticks, an MSF, a blush, I'm not sure so I thought I'd ask you guys to decide for me! Leave me a comment and let me know what you would prefer to win.. lets put a max of £35ish spend on it.. I'm not made of money :p but I love my subscribers/followers and want to share the love :)
I've seen others do this before and I really like the idea. I thought maybe a lipstick and an eyeshadow maybe or something like that.. or if you would prefer a couple of pan shadows... this is why I'm asking!
I'll take all of your comments in to consideration before I post the contest... you can expect it to be soon as I'm only about 50 away right now. I wont be running another contest while this one is running and it could be for a while so let's make it a good one. Oh... and just as an after thought.. maybe you'd prefer 2 or 3 smaller prizes? like an eyeshadow each rather than 3 for one winner... whatever!
One of you will win so you should have some input. Let me know and keep your eyes peeled...
I have seen this everywhere in the beauty community for quite a while and have been itching to get my hands on some.. I thought it really couldn't be as great as it looked and the pictures must have been some how altered but WOW! it really is that awesome!
It's a really odd consistency, very thick and gloopy but it's that special formula that creates the magical holographic effect so no complaints here. This is two coats but unlike most other glittery polishes you can apply very thick so I think you could probably achieve this in one thicker coat.
Have you already tried this? What do you think?
If you've seen it in store and been put off by how "so what" it looks in the bottle... don't be, it looks less than average wet but as it dries... special things happen!
Ok so it's fairly safe to say I've ruined my hair :/
Why I do it I don't know but I think this time I've learnt my lesson.
Over the past few days I've used colourb4 taking my dark brown/black hair to a lovely auburn red shade... not for me, I dyed it a "light brown" which proved to be darker than it had been BEFORE the colourb4 so ... back to square one. Then I decided to bleach my hair... then again... then I dyed it a dark blonde because it wasn't lifting and I had yellow roots and ginger lengths... this dye evened it all out pretty well but by day it looked pretty terrible on me so something had to be done. I of course (less than 24 hours later) bleached my hair TWICE more and then toned it... by this time the bottom 3 inches were like chewing gum and impossible to comb/brush, but my hair was still very yellow/orange/uneven from the bleach... so what did I do?
Dye it of course! So for the final time I used a medium ash blonde and it seemed to eradicate most of the yellow tones and leave me with a pale gold blonde... rather flattering and I can live with it ... GOOD NEWS!
Of course my hair was trashed, I mentioned before that I had a hair appt and I intended to have a long bob cut but in all honesty I couldn't face a hairdressers judgement so... I cut it myself (with a little help in the back from Lee) ... I must be absolutely CRAZY!
I actually really love the cut and the colour is nice, I will probably use a toner again to lift the remaining yellow tones but otherwise I think I'm done, my hair needs a serious rest. The last time I did anything remotely as reckless I had to have a pixie cut (I cannot pull that look off) so I was off my head to do this but I am what they call a beauty addict... this is my addiction...
I have joined a program and put down the bottled blonde
Hopefully my mistakes will help someone else and my hair isn't beyond repair.. oh and my journey has made for good TV lol..
Either way, it's done now, I'm off to have fun... I've heard that's what blondes do :P
